Dhammika to remove three directors at Hayleys after taking 30% of the shares !

Transport Ministry Secretary Dhammika Perera after taking over 30% of the shares of Hayleys together with his business associate, Managing Director of Lanka Ceramics Company, Nimal Perera is looking at removing three independent directors in the company's board with immediate effect.

In such a background, the three independent directors have decided not to contest for the posts at the next annual general meeting.

Dhammika Perera's side has said the current board of directors has not provided any service to the company and that they have planned to introduce a new programme to promote and develop the company in future.

Current Chairman of Hayleys, Mohan Panditharatne has remained silent over the whole internal clash.

The Hayleys Company was managed all these years by the Jayasundera Trust and the Chairman and directors were given the complete freedom to act as they wished.

Dhammikla Perera brought over 30% of the shares at Hayleys last January. In order to take over the remaining shares, Dhammika Perera has made a mandatory offer of Rs. 380 per share to take over the 9% shares with the Jayasundera Trust and 9% of the shares vested with other share holders.

International pressure mounts on Yemen leader Ali Abdullah to Step Down !

US calls for a negotiated transition of power "as quickly as possible" after more bloodshed in anti-government protests.

International pressure is mounting on Yemen's president Ali Abdullah Saleh to step down, after the deaths of at least 19 people in anti-government protests in the last two days.

Strong statements from the United States, United Nations and European Union countries came as Saleh backers clashed with protesters in the capital, Sanaa, and security forces opened fire during protests in the southern city of Taiz on Tuesday.

The official SANA news agency said four people were killed in Sanaa and dozens injured.
Ban Ki-moon, the UN secretary-general, told Saleh in a telephone call that he sent a small team to determine how the world body could best help quell tensions.

The UN chief's office said Ban "expressed strong concerns for the dead and the injured, and urged utmost restraint from both government and opposition's forces". Meanwhile, the Pentagon said the US was calling for a negotiated transition in Yemen "as quickly as possible".

"Obviously the situation right now is a difficult one. The longer it festers, the more difficult it becomes," Geoff Morrell, the Pentagon Press Secretary said. More than 120 people have been killed and 5,000 injured since Yemen's protests started on February 11, inspired by the popular uprisings in Tunisia and Egypt.

Theo James Walcott (born 16 March 1989) is an English footballer who plays for Arsenal and the England national team. He is a versatile forward who is usually deployed on the right wing. He was the subject of worldwide media attention, following his shock inclusion to the 2006 English World Cup squad.

Walcott is well known, for his blistering pace, with F.C.Barcelona manager Pep Guardiola declaring that “you would need a pistol to stop him”[4] He has been likened by Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger, to Walcott's former team-mate, and captain Thierry Henry. FIFA World Player of the Year winner Lionel Messi, has described Walcott being "One of the most dangerous players I have ever played against
Early career
Walcott was born in Stanmore, North London, but grew up at Compton near Newbury, Berkshire, where he played for the local village team and later for A.F.C. Newbury and went to The Downs School secondary school. Walcott scored more than 100 goals[7] in his one and only season for Newbury, before leaving there for Swindon Town. He only spent six months there before leaving for Southampton after he rejected a chance to join Chelsea.[8] Nike agreed to a sponsorship deal with Walcott when he was fourteen years old.[9]

Southampton
In the 2004–05 season, he starred in the Southampton youth side that reached the final of the FA Youth Cup against Ipswich Town. In addition, he became the youngest person to play in the Southampton reserve team at 15 years and 175 days, when he came off the bench against Watford in September 2004.[10] However, he did not play in the Premier League, as Southampton were relegated to the Championship at the end of the 2004–05 season.[9]

Before the start of the 2005–06 season, Walcott linked up with the first team's tour of Scotland, just two weeks after leaving school. The striker then went on to become the youngest-ever player to play for the Southampton first team at 16 years and 143 days, after coming on as a substitute in Southampton's 0–0 draw at home to Wolverhampton Wanderers in the Football League Championship.

Walcott made his full first team debut away to Leeds United on 18 October 2005, scoring his first senior goal in the same game. He scored again away at Millwall four days later, and yet again in his full home debut against Stoke City the following Saturday. His rapid rise to fame also led him to be named amongst the top three finalists for the prestigious BBC Young Sports Personality of the Year award on 11 December 2005.
Walcott transferred to Arsenal on 20 January 2006, for a fee of £5 million, rising to £12 million depending on appearances for club and country.[11][12] The original fee was payable by instalments – £5 million down, £5 million based on club appearances and £2 million based on England appearances – but was revised to a total of £9.1 million by a compromise settlement agreed on 31 March 2008.[13] He signed an initial pre-contract agreement to sign a professional contract on his 17th birthday on 16 March 2006, and was given the number 32 shirt in the process.[14]

Following his surprise and controversial selection in the England squad for the World Cup 2006,[15][16][17][18] he made his Premier League debut on 19 August 2006, the first day of the 2006–07 season, coming on as a substitute against Aston Villa and setting up a goal for Gilberto Silva.

A UEFA Champions League debut came in the second leg of Arsenal's third qualifying round match against Dinamo Zagreb,[21] where Walcott became the youngest ever Arsenal player to appear in European competition, a record previously held by Cesc Fàbregas, and since beaten by Jack Wilshere.[22] Within minutes of coming on he received his first yellow card in Arsenal colours for taking a shot several seconds after the referee had already blown for offside. During stoppage time his cross beat the Dinamo defence and Mathieu Flamini scored, giving Walcott a record of two assists in two substitute appearances. His first start came in a home league game against Watford on 14 October 2006.[23] Walcott's exploits with Arsenal and with the England team earned him the BBC Young Sports Personality of the Year award at the end of 2006

Sanga steps down as ODI & T20 captain - TM Dilshan and Angelo Mathews to be named as Captain and Vice Captain ?

Kumar Sangakkara has stepped down as captain of Sri Lanka's ODI and T20 teams but has offered to continue as the Test captain on an interim basis for the forthcoming series against England and Australia "if this is considered helpful for the new captain". He will continue as a player in all formats of the game.

His decision, revealed on Tuesday, comes days after he led Sri Lanka to the World Cup final. Tillakaratne Dilshan and Angelo Mathews are among those tipped to take charge of the limited-overs' sides, while Thilan Samaraweera is being discussed as an option to lead the Test team.

Sangakkara was the third highest scorer in the 2011 World Cup and scored 48 in their defeat to India in the final.

"I would like to announce that after careful consideration I have concluded that it is in the best long-term interests of the team that I step down now as national captain so that a new leader can be properly groomed for the 2015 World Cup in Australia", a statement from Sangakkara said.

"This was a decision I made prior to the 2011 World Cup. I will be 37 by the next World Cup and I cannot therefore be sure of my place in the team. It is better that Sri Lanka is led now by a player who will be at the peak of their career during that tournament.

"It has been a true honour and a great privilege to serve my country as captain during the past two years and, although bitterly disappointed that we could not win the final, I am very proud of the performances of the team.

"I met with the selectors on Monday and I explained my reasons for my decision and I assured them of my fullest support in helping our new captain settle into the leadership.

"In this regard, I have offered to continue as the Test captain for the forthcoming series with England and possibly Australia if the selectors believe this would help the new captain and aid the transition.

"I have no plans of retirement from international cricket at this stage and subject to form and fitness I would like to be considered for selection in all three formats of the game for the foreseeable future. "
