Lieutenant Wickramaratne is being tortured for the disappearance of four sailors !

Sources at the Defence Ministry say that special unit is torturing the Officer in Charge of the Chundikulam Naval Unit Lieutenant P.N.O Wickramaratne at a secret location for the disappearance of four sailors off Mulativu on 29 March.

The OIC is now being detained for more than eight days on charges of not reporting about the incident for 24 hours.



He was first arrested by Sri Lanka navy and was brought into Trincomalee Naval camp.

The OIC was then brought to Colombo by the special unit on the orders of Defence Secretary Gotabhaya Rajapaksha.

The sources say even the Navy Commander is not allowed to intervene against his illegal detention and torture. The relatives or the family not informed of his whereabouts.

The Defence Secretary has even shouted at Minister Janaka Bandara Tennakoon and other MPs who has tried to find out the whereabouts of Lieutenant P.N.O Wickramaratne on the requests of his family.

S.M.A. Somathilake, J.P.D.M. Gooneratne, R.B.R. Pushpakumara and C.P.A. Gunasekara who served at Chundikulam Naval Unit have left their camp in a boat to provide food supplies for the sailors providing security to Mulativu east on 29 March. But they have failed to their OIC, Lieutenant P.N.O Wickramaratne about the trip.

When informed about their disappearance, Lieutenant P.N.O Wickramaratne has tried to find out what happened to the sailors. They have later found the boat, their weapons as well as the food they were took for those working in Mulativu east.
Lieutenant P.N.O Wickramaratne has waited for another few hours before informing the higher authorities of the incident.

Rear Admiral Thusith Weerasekara, the former Navy Commander (North) has also been transferred to Welisara Navy Camp after the incident. Rear Admiral Thusith Weerasekara is the most senior officer in the service for the vacant position of Chief of Staff in Sri Lanka Navy.
